This book is about the world of Fifi and Alli, Inge Löök’s famous inspiration, the aunties. The book is published by Inge Löök Publishing and contains stories behind 16 of her Fifi and Alli illustrations, on 32 pages and it is printed in Loviisa, Finland.
“Just imagine the world we’d live in if we dared to be ourselves — without worrying what anyone else might think.”
This feel-good philosophy is already familiar from Inge Löök’s beloved illustrations on postcards, calendars, puzzles, and more. Now, those same joyful images invite us into stories written especially for grown-ups.
Meet Fifi and Alli — two kindred spirits who live life their own way. They don’t sweat the small stuff, and they dive happily into whatever adventures life sends their way. When little troubles pop up, they handle them with ease and a smile. And when it comes to the big questions — nature’s rhythms, how we spend our time, and how people and animals treat one another — they pause, reflect, and gently wonder.
Their simple wisdom?
“We should all give ourselves permission to slow down. Life feels lighter when we stop expecting so much from ourselves — and from everyone else.”
INGE LÖÖK - ABOUT THE ARTIST:
It was in the mid-70s in Finland, that Inge Löök started working both as a graphic artist and as a gardener. At the same time, she started illustrating books and other printed material as a freelancer for various employers. She drew the first 4 auntie images in 2003. Initially Valentine's cards, they unexpectedly became popular. Löök ponders why these toothless and unattractive old aunties were cherished, and explores their inner world rather than their external shell. “I prefer to stay with them in the small moments they share.”
Her inspirations come mainly from her own life or surroundings. Most of the adventures of the aunties that she has drawn show what she in real life has experienced with her neighbour. They have sailed with a parasol, had a picnic under the table and had wine in the tree,.
